I’ve known the Icelandic band Sigur Rós only from friends that are big fans but when stumbeling upon their project from two years ago called the ‘Valtari Mystery Film Experiment’, I might have become a fan myself. The experiment contains 16 films commissioned by the band and made by independent filmmakers to celebrate the songs of their new album Valtari. My favourite video of the series is number 14, a.k.a. the one with dancers in it.
This video was made by Christian Larson in collaboration with Antwerp-born choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, who describes his choreography as a “dialogue through movement”. Click play above, and see for yourself how the dancers (James O’Hara and Nicola Leahey) copy each other’s movements and become one.
At the bottom of this article you can find two other favourites of mine. To watch all video’s of the experiment, head over to the Sigur Rós Valtari Mystery Films Vimeo.
